Vindhyachal is a town in Mirzapur District 75 kms from Varanasi. The city is a Hindu pilgrimage site. The town situated on the bank of River Ganga is one of the most respected Shaktipeeths of Goddess Vindhyavasini.
Vindhyavasini Devi Temple
Referred in the ancient scriptures, Goddess Vindhyavasini is believed to be the instant bestower of blessings, who, according to Markandeya Purana had incarnated to kill the demon Mahishasura. The detailed description has been given in ‘Durga Saptashati’ Chapter of Markandeya Purana. Best known for the several shrines dedicated to the Goddess, this holy town also offers the visitors a chance to come close to natural wonders. Though Vindhyachal is a bustling town soaked with religious fervor, there is also a tranquil side not to be missed by the visitors. Located on banks of river Ganga, the land boasts green landscapes giving nature lovers their share of treat.
Ashtabhuja Temple
As per the legends, the daughter of Lord Krishna’s foster mother, Yashoda, fled miraculously from the grip of Kansa, the evil king of Mathura, and descended here. This temple is situated in a cave of hillock, 3 kms from the Goddess Vindhyavansini Devi Temple, dedicated to Goddess Asthabhuja. On the same hillock lie 3 sacred water bodies – Sita Kund, MotiyaTalab and GeruaTalab.
Kali Khoh Temple
This ancient temple is situated in a cave and is located 2 kms from the Goddess Vindhyavasani Temple. Associated to the mythology, the temple is dedicated to Goddess Kali. The temple lies at the base of the hill where Ashtabhuja Temple is located. This temple is also an imperative part of the Trikon Parikrama.
Sita Kund
It is believed that Mother Sita had taken bath in this pond. Nearby are the temple of Lord Hanuman, Rama, Goddess Durga and Mother Sita.
